If you’re new to Ponte Vedra, welcome. This was me just several years ago! I love the area and definitely decided to put myself out there to get to know people and learn what I enjoyed about this special place.

This coastal community just south of Jacksonville is known for its beaches, golf, and an easygoing lifestyle that still feels polished. Here’s a practical, local-style guide to help you get oriented quickly.

Where is Ponte Vedra (and what’s the difference between Ponte Vedra and Ponte Vedra Beach)?

Ponte Vedra sits in St. Johns County along Florida’s northeast coast. You’ll hear both ‘Ponte Vedra’ and ‘Ponte Vedra Beach’ used interchangeably by locals, but addresses and neighborhoods can vary. In general, Ponte Vedra Beach refers to the coastal area east of A1A, while Ponte Vedra can include communities a bit farther inland.

Getting around

A1A runs north–south along the coast, while J. Turner Butler Blvd (JTB) connects you quickly to Jacksonville. For day-to-day life, you’ll likely rotate between A1A, Nocatee Parkway, and US-1 depending on where you live and work.

Neighborhoods to know

Ponte Vedra Beach: Coastal living, beach access, and a mix of established neighborhoods.
Nocatee: Master-planned community with amenities, trails, and a wide range of home styles.
Sawgrass / Marsh Landing area: Known for golf, gated communities, and proximity to the beach.

Beaches and outdoor life

Beach access points are plentiful, and sunrise walks are a local favorite. Beyond the sand, you’ll find parks, preserves, and plenty of golf. If you’re moving from a colder climate, give yourself a few weeks to adjust to the humidity—then you’ll wonder how you lived without year-round outdoor time.

Schools and family life

St. Johns County is widely known for strong schools, which is one reason families relocate here. If schools are a priority, it’s worth confirming zoning for the exact address you’re considering, since boundaries can change and neighborhoods may feed into different schools.

Local favorites: coffee, casual bites, and date-night spots

Ponte Vedra has a mix of laid-back and upscale dining. Start by exploring the clusters along A1A and the nearby Town Center area in Jacksonville for more options. Next up is a trip about 45 minutes south to St. Augustine for great food and local music. A trip 45 minutes to the North will bring you to Amelia Island, for more great food and shopping and a laid back vibe. My best advice: pick one new place each week for your first month—you’ll build your ‘go-to’ list fast.

A quick checklist for your first 30 days

Find your closest beach access and try a sunrise or sunset walk.
Do a ‘commute test’ to work/schools at the times you’ll actually travel.
Explore grocery and errand hubs so you know your quickest routes.
If you’re house hunting, tour neighborhoods at different times of day (weekday + weekend).
